State of Virginia Hanover County
On the 27th day of February 1843 personally appeared before me, Charles C. Tinsley, a Justice for the Peace and for the county aforesaid and as such is also a justice of the court of Hanover County, Sophia Sneed, a resident of the county of Hanover and state of Virginia age sixty five years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the Sec of Congress July 7, 1838. That she is the widow of Robert Snead, the identical person who was a pensioner and is recorded and to whom a certificate of pension was issued of which the following is a true copy.

I certify that in conformity with the Law of the United States of the 7th June 1832, Robert Sneed of the State of Virginia who was a private in the Army of the Revolution is entitled to receive Forty Six Dollars and Sixty six cents per Annum during his natural life commencing on the 4th of March 1831 and payable semi annually or the 4th of March and 4th September of every year.

She further declares that she was married to the said Robert Snead on the first day of March in the year Seventeen hundred and ninety two and that her husband the aforesaid Robert Sneed died on the 19th day of January 1841, and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed.

I certify that Sophia Snead above named widow of Robert Snead deceased, who resides 18 miles from the Court house, cannot with convenience, damage and bodily infirmity attend the Court of the County of Hanover aforesaid, to make the foregoing declaration which she has made before me.
