Abraham Snay > helped capture John Wilkes Booth
Is there anyone out there connected to the family of this man, Abraham Snay? He lived for many years in Saranac, New York. His father was Peter Snay (b.abt.1814 in Vt.)and his grandfather John Snay.
I suspect that my ancestor Julie Snay was a sister to Abrahams father, Peter. Julie married Francois Sauvage and they lived in Saranac, the same place Peter lived. Julie's son Louis Savage was also involved in the capture of John Wilkes Booth. In the pension file of Louis Savage, there is a deposition (after the death of Louis) by Abraham Snay. Abraham states that "he knew Louis since they were children, and always lived within a half mile of each other, except for a short time that Louis lived in Vermont."
Also in the area, is a Josephte Sney who was married to Charles Sauvage, who was the brother of Julies husband, Francois. There is a Julie Sney who was godmother to a daughter of Charles Savage & Josephte Sney (I believe this is my Julie Snay).
I believe that some how Josephte Sney and my Julie Snay are connected to the family of Abraham Snay. Given their ages, they were either sisters or cousins to Peter Snay. It's been difficult getting any wheres with Julies ancestry as the records in Clinton County area for 1830's and 1840's are lost.
I'm hoping to contact descendants of Peter Snay to compare notes. By learning more of Peters family, perhaps I'll learn my Julies ancestry.
Thank You,
