Hi Rebecca, and thanks again for this information. Did your Aunt say anything about your great-grandfather, George Oliver, having brothers Benjamin and Francis Randolph or his grandparents?
From the obits I have read (there are two different ones and I will post the second one in the next message) Joseph Snapp, your great-great-grandfather, first married Rebecca and had a son Marcus Jackson b 25 Jul 1828 and a daughter, Jennie who married Richard Gray and she passed away sometime before Marcus died 25 Jul 1906, on his 78th birthday. No mention of Benjamin or Francis Randolph, but they may have passed away before Marcus and not mentioned in the obits.
Joseph then married a second time to a lady, name and date unknown. The second marriage produced: Brooke who married a Mr Hodgson; Dedrick W (spelled Detrick in one obit); Emma; George Oliver b abt 1852 (I can't find where I got his birthdate); Joseph S; Maggie who married a Mr Bryant; daughter - name unknown who married J Henry Moling; and Maud who married Mr M Crow (her name is spelled Maid Crew in one obit). One of the obits also has a son Henry.
Does your aunt have any information on any of these people or anything to add to the obits?
I am not related to the Snapp family, but my children are through their mother. Her father's mother was Edith Alma Snapp, daughter of Marcus Jackson Snapp and Zora Virginia Gray. Her father's father was George Snapp Funkhouser, son of Casper Funkhouser and Sarah Elizabeth Snapp.
Sarah Elizabeth Snapp was born 5 May 1841 in Edinburg, VA, and her ancestors are Jacob B Snapp, b 1806 and Rebecca Grandstaff; Abraham and Sarah Miller; Philip Snapp and Catherine Hockman; and Lawrence Snapp b in Alsace. I am trying to find the common Snapp between the two sides of her father's family. I have that Marcus Jackson Snapp was the son of Joseph and Rebecca unknown Snapp, grandson of Lawrence and unknown Snapp and the great grandson of John and unknown Snapp.
Thanks for the help.
