thanks for the response but we may only be distant cousins of unknown connection.

My Philip SMYTH was probably born a little later than yours and, whilst I understand he had brothers who went to the United States, he never did.

In 1870 he was in Singleton, New South Wales: there is a newspaper report of his suing a former employer for unpaid wages.

He married in Australia in 1867 an Elizabeth WHITE.

He was from a place the English called Scrabby but now bears the Irish name Loch Gowna in Co. Cavan.
