When the 1860 Davidson County Census was taken a few of the SMOTHERS living there were Lucina, Alexander, Levi A. (I like that name), and a Sarah. There are SMOTHERS living in Benton County as well as other surrounding ones.
As a tip, well meaning too, don't limit your research. All the SMOTHERS wouldn't have gotten along very well if they all stayed together. What happens in families today happened back then and if really known, some parted ways under less than favorable conditions. Likewise, other reasons existed.

This will greatly help ANYBODY doing research in Tennessee. The Tennessee Census Records for 1820-1870 have been indexed. You send the Tennessee State Library and Archives a surname, the year, e. g., 1850, and $3.00 and you will get a listing of the requested surname, alphabetically, and county, and other info depending on census year. Of course, 1850 and 1860 give names and ages of all family members. You should write Tennessee State Archives to get the rules, Tennessee residents pay nothing or less. Also they only take one request at a time. I had to inform about this just because I see so many people trying to locate data and rely too much on queries. That's another story. The census is a very good source that's far too often overlooked. This is not intended to be arrogant. If any readers already know, ok, but if anyone is helped, it's worth it to me for you others to think so. I love research.
