Rick; I see you have amassed quite a bit of data on the Smothers family. Perhaps you can help me with my line.
My ggrandfather was Joseph Smothers b KY abt 1840. By 1870 he was in Il. (both 1870 and 1880 census give his age as thirty) A note handed down by an uncle says Joseph enlisted in the Confederate army at Cooksville, TN. Family tradition says he "Rode with Morgan's raiders". Joe married Mary Gunter and they raised a family in McLeansboro, IL Hamilton Co.
Children were: Amanda, Elizabeth, Charles, Nancy, Nel Mattie, my grandmother (married William P. Brewster), and Etta.
Any information on Joe's parentage would be greatly appreciated.
