OF FORREST SMITHSON SR. Forrest C. "Bud" Smithson Jr. FORREST "BUD" C. SMITHSON, JR. Early Saturday morning, December 27, 2003, our loving father, Forrest "Bud" C. Smithson, Jr., 89 years old, passed. Bud is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Ruby L. Smithson. Devoted father to Sandra S. Smithson, Michael C. Smithson & wife Janice, Mary C. Casha & partner Rick Montillo, and Patrick G. Smithson & wife Linda. Sweet and loving grandfather to Buffy D. Siedentopf & husband Kirk, Tiffany F. Littleton, Frank F. Smithson, Patrick C. Smithson, Derek M. Smithson, Dale G. Smithson, and Clayton M. Smithson. Adored great-grandfather of David "D.J." J. Hunt and Samantha N. Siedentopf. Bud was born in Portland, OR, and was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to the formation of Cal-Trans, Bud worked for the California State Automobile Association travelling with Ruby up and down Northern California installing road-way signs. Following that, Bud was a long time employee of Pacific Bell and retired from Pac Bell in 1980. Bud loved to sing and was a member of the Eden Chapter S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A, San Leandro, CA. This love of barbershop quartet was shared with his loving sister, Nancy Shevlon, who was also a member. He also loved miniature trains and was a member of the San Leandro Historical Railroad Society. Bud enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing, and passed that love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. Bud was a very generous and fair man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed his retirement, sleeping in late everyday, helping neighbors with various projects, and spent many weekends looking for new treasures or trinkets from estate sales to share with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. At Bud's request, no service will be held. He will be laid to rest at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA. If preferred, donations in Bud's memory can be made to Sonoma County Meals on Wheels (Sonoma County Council on Aging) at 730 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95404, or the Oakland SPCA Society at 8323 Baldwin Street, Oakland, CA 94601.
