John Michael Smithpeter was born at Saxe Gotha in present Lexington County, SC, along the banks of the Saluda River. His father, Johann Georg Schmidtpeter (Smithpeter) was murdered by the Weberites (Jacob Weber & his followers) in an act of religious heresy in February 1761. In November Caterin Smithpeter, widow of John George Schmidtpeter/Smithpeter, acted as administratix of his estate. John Michael Smithpeter is the only known heir of John George Smithpeter. It is not known what became of Caterin, the mother. John Michael Smithpeter returned to South Carolina & sold his father's land to Johannes Kleckley. The land remains in the Kleckly family to this day. To learn more visit my website at www.Weberites.com
