Kathleen, I think I can answer your question on this. I had just re-read the estate of JOSEPH SMITHERMAN of Bibb Co., Al. and your information hit something I read in the estate. JOSEPH SMITHERMAN [b. ca 1794] had a son named JOSEPH B SMITHERMAN, whom I have not been able to find any further infomation on. According to the part of Joseph's estate recorded in 1868 his son JOSEPH B was deceased and had four children: G SMITHERMAN, NEWTON SMITHERMAN, NANCY SMITHERMAN, and JULIA SMITHERMAN. These children were said to reside in Bibb Co., Al. with their mother EMELINE. I have not been able to locate a marriage record for Joseph B and Emeline, nor a census record in Bibb Co., Al. for this family in 1860 or 1870.

I had came across information that suggested the Emeline was perhaps a SMOTHERMAN. I knew that Joseph B's sister NANCY had married WILLIAM M SMOTHERMAN from Tn. and had moved to Calloway Co., KY.

Please email me direct [davyl@Mindspring.com] and I will help you anyway I can on this. See also the reply to Jeffery Smitherman on the family of Daniel Smitherman since he was another brother of Joseph B. Smitherman and both were sons of Joseph and unknown wife.
