William Smith from Westport, Fairfield Co., CT
Seeking information on William H. Smith, b. abt 1806 in Westport, CT.He was married to Harriet Nash on 12 Feb 1826.Smith's father, possibly also a William, was born in England according to oral family history. They had some connection to the textile industry in Fairfield Co.My mother said she remembered something about thread manufacturing. The family moved eventually to Dayton, OH where Harriet is buried at the Woodland Cemetery.I believe Wm. is buried in Indiana where the family lived for a while.
Their children were: Harriet Smith, b. c. 1830, Lydia Smith, about 1832, Cornelius Wm. Smith, b. 1835 in CT,Katie Smith (my great grandmother)b. 1842 in Coalmont, Clay Co., IN, and Wm. Henry Smith, b. 1864 in Clinton Co., IN.There is a HUGE gap in the birth of Katie and William and their mother would have been 55 at Wm's birth so I have to rethink and reexplore that Wm. was a son. Some of the family might have been in Sandusky, OH.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.I'm sure you all know how hard such a common name can be to research.
