Levi Smith Revolutionary War Drummer

Looking for information about Levi Smith who was at the Battle of Bunker Hill and received a captured British drum which he passed to his son Israel. Israel used it as a drummer in the War of 1812. Later, Israel's son, also Israel, was a very talented and well known musician. He used the same drum at times during the Civil War. But, Israel the younger became bandmaster of Massachusetts regimental band had an outstanding career both during and after the war.

I am a drummer with an interest in history and in rope tension drums. I see history as the telling of life stories of all people. I would greatly appreciate being contacted by anyone (family member or not) who could help me learn more about Levi, his son and grandson; as well as the drum they shared across so much of our nation's early history.

Thank you in advance.

Malcolm Johnson
