I am the former owner of the 'Andrew Smith Bible'.For years I have tried to correct some mis-conceptions re: the Andrew Smith Bible (a.k.a. the 'Pitt-Smith Bible') but have never said it so well as you in this reply.Your excellent summary presents the known history and the dilemma of Andrew's origins in a non-biased, scholarly manner.
You may wish to amend your records to show that the Bible is now in the possession of the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston, Mass. The Bible was first identified in TAG as the 'Andrew Smith Bible' and the Pacach article which re-named it the 'Pitt-Smith Bible' has only caused further confusion.Although the name "George Pitt" does appear in the Bible, so also do the names: John Pitt, Sarah Foster, Joseph Foster, John Seale, Jonathan Stout, Gideon Stout Smith, and others. No family connections are given in the Bible. Therefore any connection to Andrew Smith the immigrant is pure conjecture at this point.
I am the 7th great granddaughter in a direct Smith line of Andrew Smith the immigrant.
