Early Smiths (1700's) & Union County, South Carolina Smiths

Phebe Smith born about 1750, married William Wilbanks. Their son, John Wilbanks, died about 1850 in Union County, South Carolina. Phebe's parents are supposedly Captain Luke B. Smith and Judith Farris. Where was this family before South Carolina or were they there earlier than 1800's? Also, Mary Polly Smith born about 1803 in Union County, South Carolina, married Bazzeal Wilbanks. Her parents were James Smith who married 2nd Martha ?. Would Phebe be an aunt to this James Smith of Union County, South Carolina. Who are Mary Smith, Archer Smith, and Gideon Smith 1780-1800 of Union County, South Carolina? Your help and advice is appreciated. Thanks, Rebecca.
