Kim,
Margaret Smaw wife of John D. Smaw, Thomas Smaw, Caroline Smaw, Eunice Smaw, Frances Smaw and John D. Smaw were named as heirs of Lt. Col. Levi Dawson at a court hearing in New Bern, Craven Co. in 1838. I've found the names of all of Levi Dawson's children, but I've not been able to connect how the Smaws were related. Levi Dawson's sister Mary (Dawson) Carraway Respass Crawford Tillman (she was married four times and had no children) left her slaves to John Smaw if he would pay her four nieces $600. These four were Frances Fulford, Eunice Shaw, Sarah Nichols, and Ann Sparrow. I know these are the daughters of Levi Dawson. I'm thinking there was another daughter who married a Smaw. I just can't find the connection or name. John Smaw was living in Craven Co. at the time (1815), but he returned to Beaufort Co. I have all the Smaw records from NC Archives, but it has not yielded any help here. Dan
