David;
I'm not for sure where some researcher's believe that the John Smithers who was raised by William Smithers, Jr., is his grandson and not his son. In the Baptismal records of Pennsylvania, you will find the following to be the children of William & Anna Catharina (?)Smither,Jr.
1.Catharina Barbara,bn.2-May-1764,bapt. on the 6-May-1764
2.Susannah,bn.ca.1766
3.Elisabetha,bn.23-Nov.-1770;bapt.9-dec.-1770
4.Johann Jacob,bn.7-Feb-1772;bapt.23-Feb-1772
5.John,bn.17-Dec-1773,this is listed in church records.This is the John in question. How was this man the daughter of Barbara when he was born in Pa.?Do you have any documentation to prove your statement to be fact.All I have seen is the documents you have posted and they do not name John as Barbara's ill. son. Please clarify for me please!
6.Conrad,bn.9-Feb-1774;bapt.13-Feb-1774
All the above were born in Pennsylvania.
7.Henry,bn.30-Oct-1775
8.Mary,bn.ca.1777
9.Margaret,bn.ca.1779
10.Eve,bn.ca.1781
11.Christina "Teny",bn.ca.1790
All were the children of Anna Catharina who died after they had moved to Rowan Co., N.C., her grave has not been found as of yet. We may all find out that William married his older brother John Schmetter's widow, Anna Catharina. John died in 1761 and left two children: Maria Christina and Johannes. These two children were bound out by their Mother because she could not care for them. I have located both of these children in their later lives. Let me know what you come up with on your end about the John in question. I am anxious to find something more out.
Ann
