My Grandfather Charles R. Allen (1888-1980) married Effie Smart daughter of J.C. Smart and Sara Obarr Smart. Effie died abt 1926 and he remarried my Grandmother Ida Hanvey Allen (1891-1979). All are burried in Goshen Cemetary Piedmont, Al. A story I heard once as a child by my uncle Archie Allen was that one of J.C.,s boys (Name unknown to me) decided to leave Al. and as he passed his brother "Lon,s" house said "Better come on and go with me" to which Lon replied " reckon I'll stay here". The brother was never seen or heard from again and this may be the way some of the Smarts ended up in Arkansas.
Re: Union Grove Cemetary. I'm sure that you also know that Sara Obarr,s parents are also burried there just a few yards away from her. She also had a sister burried there who was Albert Bramletts wife. Bramletts both died young and Sara raised their son Earl Bramlett. Our family history takes the Smarts all the way back to Ireland I think but I am not directly related to them. I picked cotton as a boy for Lon Smart before there were cotton pickers. He, as well as his sons, was quite a character with lots of good stories.
