I am interested to follow up the middle name Laws. Where did it come from? Alexander Laws Smart was born in about 1841 in Upwell, Cambridgeshire, son of Robert Smart born in 1801, also in Upwell. His mother was Mary A from nearby Stedgate. I can't go back any further, but I wonder if she was a Laws. I should also like to find out who Robert Smart's parents were.
