I found the following deed while searching for my ancestor, Moses Walden, in Patrick County, Virginia.It does answer several questions.I do know that my ancestor Moses Walden, was married to Mary Smallman from this document; however, I have yet to find a record of the marriage.I assume from this that she is the mother of Featherston Walden, my ancestor.
"This Indenture Made the 11th day of Feb in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight
Hundred and four Between Ann Smallman, Grief Smallman, John Smallman, Elias Bryant
and Susannah his Wife, Moses Godard and Jane his Wife, Moses Walden and Mary his
Wife and James Hollandsworth and Ann his Wife all of the County of Patrick, of the
one Part and Joseph Cummings of the said County of the other Part. Witnesseth that
for and in consideration of the sum of ten pounds current money of Virginia in hand
paid by the said Joseph Cummings the receipt thereof the said Ann Smallman, Grief
Smallman, John Smallman, Elias Bryant and Susannah his Wife, Moses Walden and Mary
his Wife, Moses Godard and Jane his Wife, and James Hollandsworth and Ann his Wife
doth hereby acknowledge hath granted Bargained Sold Aliend enfeof and confirm unto
the said Joseph Cummings his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of Sand
lying on the Waters of Bowen Creek, and being part of a survey of two Hundred and
fifty nine acres granted to John Smallman by patent bearing sale 1790 in the said
county of Patrick containing Forty acres more or less and bounded as followeth
(Metes and bounds description) To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of
Sand with all and every appurtenance thereunto belonging unto the said Joseph
Cummings his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use of behoof of him
the said Joseph Cummings his heirs and assigns, and the said Parties before named
against themselves their respective heirs and assigns and against the claim and
demand of all and every other person Whatsoever will warrant and forever defend
the right and title of the said tract or parcel of Sand unto the said Joseph Cummings
his heirs and assigns forever with all and every appurtenance thereunto belonging.
In _____ the said Ann Smallman, Grief Smallman, John Smallman,Elias Bryant and
Susannah his Wife, Moses Godard and Jane his Wife, Moses Walden and Mary his Wife,
and James Hollandsworth and Ann his Wife have hereunto set their names and affixed
their seals the day and year above written.

I also found the will of Moses Walden leaving money to my 5th great grandfather, Featherston Walden, and his estate to his wife, Mary.Featherston migrated from Virginia to Tennessee, to Alabama.
