Smale and Pentland Huron County Ontario

Looking for the connection of the name Pentland with the name of Smale , My great grandparents Sarah Ann Rice and Jonas (Joseph) Smale named the first born son Ward Pentland Smale , the name Ward came from Sarah Ann Rice's mother Fannie Ward, so now I am looking at the name of Pentland and wondering the relationship of this name to the Smale family from Hensall Ontario. Jonas 's mothers name was Rebecca and she was born on June 6 1828 and died Feb. 2 1909 in South Dumfries Brant county , Jonas grew up in the Hensall Ontario area , siblings if any unknown, Jonas's fathers name unknown , Rebecca was considered old at that time period to have a child at 39 unless there were others before him. Jonas was born August 13 1865,and married in Branchton Ontario July 6 1887. This name name is a total frustration to me and I have not been able to solve the mystery of Jonas parentage. I am now looking at the possiblity of the first born of Jonas and Sarah being named after the parents mothers maiden names , hence the name of Ward and Pentland , Jonas and Sarah lost a couple of young daughters and the death announcements in the paper listed the father as Joseph so maybe Jonas was a second name or even a nickname. now you can understand my delima Jonas and Sarah had 12 children. I have all of their names and dates.
