Re: Knauss family research from PA, Slovenia

Our family came to the US from Slovenia in the mid to late 1800's. My grandfather, Roland Helman Knouse was born in Louisiana in 1900, sent to Germany for school before WWI, lived in Altoona, Pa for a while where my father was born and then settled in St. Mary's, PA where he lived until his death.

His father was born Johann Knauss in Slovenia and was married to Helen Parr who was Austrian. In Slovenia his father and mother lived in two towns within a mile of one another; Draga (Trava) and Podpreska. They both had the same last name before marriage. She is listed as Marja Knauß and he is Georg Knauß. That is as far back as the records go for both of them as we have been told the church and records were burned up at some point in the past.

Any help with linking these to the rest of the family in Germany would be appreciated.
