According to the 1906 Ellis Island records Cecilia Ostanek came from Zagorica. In the Slovenian telephone directory today there is still one Ostanek in Zagorica, near Veliki Gaber.
Jacob Novsek came in 1902. According to the transcription he was Syrian! However, the original manifest clearly shows him as Styrian. While he was last in Laibach (Ljubljana), it would appear that he may have been from Bocna. The two people following him were from that place. He was going to a cousin (Kropusek). In Ellis Island there are 4 Kropusek coming from Mors Germany in 1907 (probably had been there because of work), while another four are from Bocna. Unfortunately, today there are no Kropusek or Novsek in Bocna. There are only 4 Kropusek in the entire directory, and namely in Maribor; Sentjur; Sostanj and Velenje. Similarly, there are only two Novsek, one from Litija near Ljubljana and the other in Preski Vrh near Ravne na Koroskem.
As most of the places are in Styria (Stajerska) I would suggest you contact the Archives in Maribor and ask them if they can locate any information. Ask about costs before deciding and be specific as to what you want.
Hope this helps.
