VODILKA/VOGYILKA, MANCZOS/MANCOS - Trebisov (Kosice) & maybe Parno (Parchovany)

My great-great-grandmother Mrs. Anna (nee Vodilka) Manczos/Mancos emigrated to U.S. on 24 May 1899, arriving in port of New York, on ship S.S. Kensington according to the manifest from the port of Antwerp, Belgium to join her husband Jozef Manczos (American version: Joseph Mancos) who were already here in US. Joseph Mancos (my great-great-grandfather) must have been here in US sometime before 1882.

Additional information has shown that they originated from Toke-Terebes in Zemplin County in former Austro-Hungarian Empire (which falls in now in I believe present-day Trebisov, Slovakia). I was also informed that the Vodilkas may have probably come from the village of Parno (Parchovany) too.

At this point, I am still not sure exactly when Joseph Mancos came to America, which could have been sometime before November 27, 1882, since his first and oldest child was born here in America in Tazewell County, Virginia according to the sons voters registration card.

They later settled in small coal-mining town of Pocahontas, Virginia where Joseph worked as a coal miner. They reared 7 children (4 from his previous marriage) who spell their surname either Mancos or Mances. Those children were (by 1st marriage: Michael "Mike" Mances, Joseph "Joe" Mances, Anna Cecilia (later Sister Geneivene), and John Muncy., and by 2nd marriage: my great-grandmother Mary Cecilia (nee Mancos) Bruce, Stephen Joseph Mancos, and Andrew Mancos.)

I am mostly interested in finding more about my great-great-grandparents parents and ancestors overseas in the old country of Austria-Hungary Empire before the turn of century.

I was wondering if there is a place that I can contact or search for information such as archives or parishes in that village (if they have one there?) and if there is any resource I can turn to since I do not know Hungarian or Slovak language.

I also am interested in if anyone can tell me how and where to get started and what direction to lead on, which would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone shares the same surname in his/her tree, feel free to post follow-up to this message, Thanks!

Bradlee
