I guess I put it poorly. The town lives on because descendents of the village folk gather to memorialize the long gone place their ancestors lived.
Every Slovak town and village was it's own little world. Each had a distinctive "kroj" (folkdress), body of folksongs, particular folkways, traditions and superstitions. All that stuff lives on as long as decsendents choose to recall it.
Slovaks, being mainly a peasant nation, are very good at remembering the way things were long ago.
