I am sure you are going step by step backwards from yourself to locate documents on your ancestors. You can www.google.com and find out about Byzantine Catholic religion. Right now you need to find either a precise place of birth or the "original" spelling of the ancetral surname. Somewhere along the way, the documents you locate will reveal their religion.
