My mother-in-law, Rose Gormish Veneskey had this information in some papers that her sister gave her. Rose is the youngest of her family and does not remember much of her childhood or parents and most of her brothers and sisters are gone. Michael Gormish (Golmicz) was her father. Michael was born on December 27, 1891 in Tarnava, Czechoslovkia. His father was Andy Golmicz and his mother was Maria Czbak. Rose's mother was Mary Hresco, born September 2, 1891 in Pozcisovice, Slovakia. George Hresco was Mary's father and her mother was Maria Kroy. Mary's father George Hresco came to the U.S. sometime before 1907. George went back to Czechoslovakia but, Mary lived with an aunt in Braddock, PA. Mary meet and married Mike Golmitz on April 10, 1913 in PA. Mary arrived in New York, October 15, 1907, on the Carpathia. Her place of departure was Fiume, Italy. Mary's last place of foreign residence was Pozcisovice, Czecko Slovakia (this is the way Mary signed where she was from). I have never seen Czecko Slovakia written like that,oh well. Rose was told by her sister Betty, that when Betty went back to Czechoslovakia she meet some of the family that had lived in the U.S. and had moved back to Czechoslovakia. Betty said the town was at the foot of a castle and her father had helped take care of the vineyards below the castle. The town was known for there crystal glass. I have been trying to find the towns on a map without success. I'm having trouble finding a map from the 1890-1910's. I'm looking for Tarnava and Pozcisovice, Czechoslovakia. The names: Golmic, Golmicz,Golmitz,or Gormish (I think Gormish is the American spelling but, I'm not sure) Czbak, Hresco, and Kroy. I would be very Thankful, if I could take some more information to my mother-in-law. I'm hopping this may be the start of a search in Czechoslovakia. Thank You, Karen Collins Veneskey Notify Administrator about this message?
