Hi Ed
Good thing there is only Nizny Slavkov and Vysny Slavkov.You can order both village's church records unless the family members's that you found thru EI points to one of the other Slavkov.
For before EI try www.castlegarden.org
Look at LZPODNIK (Szpodnik) Anton's manifest;
SPODUIK Andras arr. in 1910
SZPODUZIK and SZPODNYIK
Your ancestors could come thru Baltimore, Boston or Philadelphia.
Found Marton SZPODNIK arriving in 1905. He was in US in 1893/6.
Gyorgy SZPODNIK arr. in 1905 He was in US in 1892/5.You might want to look at those manifests.
Janos SZPODNIK arr. in 1901.
Here is a first name translation website http://topolcsanyi.alphalink.com.au/nameshttp://topolcsanyi.alphalink.com.au/names As you know, your ancestor would have come under Hungarian spelling of his first name.
Check in www.surnamenavigator.org
Lizi SPODNIK born in Slaukov (Slavkov) Scharosch (Saros megye in Hungarian ) Saris region in Slovak.Have no idea why Kis-Kukullo megye is also mentioned.
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910click on Saros megye to find the village Alsoszalok.
Martin SPODNIK Saripki (sounds like Sarisky / Saris)Stolica
