Dear Robert,
I apologize if you are offended by my advice.
The fact of the matter is that the pictures come out really huge. And one simply cannot print them as they are.
One would need to piece them together, and thereby use lots of tape to achieve a finished product, not necessarily pretty.
Or, one would need to "shrink" the photo to print it,thereby needing a magnifying glass to view it.
This is a convenience for someone who might want to analyze the data for their personal use, while not being connected to the internet.
In order to view the ellis island site, one must be online. If one has a dial up connection, it can take a really long time to receive an image, and then it can be lost in a second.Very frustrating!
I do not believe that I have condoned printing the manifests, as is offered by the ellisisland website.
Most printers will not accomodate photos as large as these manifest prints would be, if one were to attempt to print them.
Again, I apologize if my advice has offended anyone.I offer a disclaimer here, that these photos of the manifests are the property of the Ellis Island foundation, which is why they have "protected" their photos from being saved to the hard drive on your computer.
Perhaps the adminstrator of this site would care to remove my past posting on this subject so as to not offend anyone else.
Thank you.
Barbara
