Mrena: need assistance please
I finally found my grandfather on the President Grant manifest.I took Zlatica's suggestion and used the Stephen Morse website, found the manifest, and scrolled through every page. This is kind of funny, but wasn't he on the very last page?
The transcriber listed his last name as Unvena. If you plug in Stefan Unvena, you will find him on line 4.I have a question about his last known residence. It appears to be:Naggazamlab, or something like that.
Now, I took John's advice, and accessed his suggested website for Hungarian towns.Stefan Mrena's birthplace was Tirnau, according to his naturalization papers. The manifest shows a birthplace, but it is difficult to read. I had no luck finding the listed last known residence on this website. But I certainly could have missed something.
Also, the manifest shows that he left his brother, Johann Mrenna, but I cannot read the town below his name.
I have learned that reading these manifests is much easier if one has some idea what one is looking for.My hope is that someone will be able to recognize a familiar-looking town, and help me with the translation.
As always, I thank you kind people for your active interest in my requests.
Barbara
