Oh yeah! (that's what my 3yr old says when she is very happy) - I vote for Mark's answer because it is the closest to my pronunciation of VRONick all these years (I was not familiar with the "ny" until recently). Actually, VRAHnik is probably closer to how I pronounce it - it's so hard to "transcribe" pronunciations.I think I know what you're talking about with v/w blend.I took Spanish for three yearsand their "v" is a v/b blend.
Anyway, Mark's VRAHnyeek should afford me at least a little "nah-nah" to the family! :-)I can be such a brat!
Also, thanks for the explanation on the meaning of the name. I knew Vrana was crow, but couldn't figure out how it would apply to a person.Your explanation makes sense since we are all dark haired on the Vranik side.The Prska line is much lighter.
A big thank you to all of you for helping with this family debate. Including Zlatica, who answered personally.Now there's a name I really butchered until I heard it. You just can't learn the Slovak language by only reading it - you HAVE to hear it spoken.
