Hyphenated Surname
The father of my g-grandmother is listed in church records as Jozsef Beganyi-Gonezi (marks- "~" over the n and "shallow cup" over the i).It seems like family members used either portion of the name.As an example, my g-grandmother is listed as Anna Beganyi on my grandmother's birth certificate, yet she came to the U.S. as "Anna Genozi".Her (Anna's) sister entered the U.S. as "Maria Begany" in 1904, yet two years later Maria's mother came to the U.S. with a destination of "daughter-- Maria Genozi." Is there any significance to the hyphenated last name and its seemingly random use?The family was from Also Mislye.
