Ron,
Thank you for your prompt response to my query. I agree with you that Straske, Slovakia appears to be the right place considering the proximity of Brekov and Sbudsa. I looked at the Mormon Church site and checked their birth and marriage listings but did not see any names resembling Sepelya or Kovac. I will visit the Family Center near here and start my search there. They have been very helpful to me on my other searches.
Are you in Slovakia? I think it would be great to email with someone in my native land. Do many citizens of Slovakia have computers and are they online? My father's family was quite large but all are dead now. A few of his nieces and nephews are still alive and I communicate with them from time to time. They will be interested in what I find. One of his cousins, on his mother's side, is also very interested in the Kovac line.
Do you know if there are any detailed maps showing the towns of Brekov and Sbudsa available? I have a map of Slovakia that shows where Straske is and I could put them on that map but I would prefer an official map. Did Slovakia have census records like we have here in the states? As you can see, I am just starting on my father's genealogy ancestry. I have my mother's completed back to the 1600's but that is because the immigrants on her side came here many generations ago.
Again, I appreciate your response.
Take care.
Ron Shapella
