At first, I didn't want to accept the fact that Giles was no other, than the son of Anthony. After much research, I have concluded that there was only one Giles, and he was the son of Philip and Charity Bickham. Now there may be a possibility that Giles was a nephew or cousin to Anthony, but have been unable to find this information in the UK, although I have not given up my search.
I have been working with a gentlemen named Mel Brown, on the genealogy of Anthony, Giles, and families of Capt.Joshua Slocum, who was also assumed related to Anthony. Our research has led us to beleive that there were three seperated Slocum families who were the first to come to America. Anthony, Giles and Samuel. Mel is working on the publication of our findings, which hopefully will be done within a year.
Mel and I have toured Portsmouth, R.I. and have located the buriel site of Giles #2. We have also located Giles #1 Site which is located accross the street from the Portsmouth Town Hall, and have an appointment within a week, to visit the church and cemetary where he is buried, and the exact location of his grave, which is marked by a plain, unmarked stone. The minister, reverend, whatever, has all the information on Giles #1 to give us, so can't wait to see the exact location. I have been to the site a year ago, but didn't know exactly where Giles #1 was buried.
Incidentally, I have read, in several areas where people claim there were three persons named Giles. Nonsense !!!! Because the name was used fromfamily to family, for several generations, those people are all sc..... up. I have gone to various genealogy sites and found anywhere between 3 to 5 variations of the families. If these people only took the time to search, and not copy everybodies ideas, or interpretations, and this does not only apply to the Slocum families, then all these different stories might make sense.... Whatever...
Thanks for the contact...
