Giles Slocum
Truth – Myth – Legend – Possibility

Need your help in discussion on the history of Giles.
I have finished Anthony however Giles is a little more difficult and would like your ideas on this subject and any new research.

Giles as the son of Anthony Slocum.
I believe it to be a myth.

Giles as the son of Philip and Charity Bickham Slocombe
Possibility? Born 1623

My concerns: Giles had an ear mark listed in 1668 as having it for 30 years which
Would place him in the Providence of Rhode Island in 1638. [age 15]
Thomas Cooke’s ear mark would place him in Rhode Island in 1642.

Giles father died in Goathurst, Somerset in 1624, Giles was age 2 and he and his mother lived with Aldred Bickham in Old Cleeve.

Giles would have left Rhode Island in 1639 to 1640 and went back to Old Cleeve, married Joan Cooke in 1641 and had daughter Joan in 1642.
Giles was listed as taking oath to church of England in 1641, listed on protestation
Returns in Old Cleeve in 1642, his Mother Charity died and will was proved in 1643/44 in Old Cleeve, she did not mention a daughter in law or a grandchild in her
Will.

1648 -Giles was then listed in 1648 – granted land in Rhode Island

1652 – A Giles Slocombe was listed in Goathurst, Somerset in a wedding contract
for a bride and groom who was given land previously owned by Giles Slocombe. [this is 4 to 8 years after our Giles was listed as being in Rhode Island. Between 1645 and 1652 – children born between these dates to Giles and Joan were
John, Giles, Ebenezer, Nathaniel?????
Giles names his first born son John……..

Giles as the son of John and Marie Slocombe born between 1592 and 1600 in or near London? Brother of Anthony???? Extended family of Thomas Slocombe of Bristol, England.
Father or brother [John Slocombe] was listed in a court case in 1622 to recover money concerning a ship named Falcon that landed in Jamestown Virginia in 1619.

Possibility

What are your ideas????
