Jared Sloas, born abt 1740's
Posted by: Judith McGowan Date: January 05, 2000 at 11:20:23
  of 36

I am looking for the family and parents of Jared Sloas who married Mary Christina. They had the following known children: James David, Henry, Rufus, Catherine, John Peter, Laura, Polly Ann, Susanah, Mary and Marion.

Jared and his wife are buried in Ceres, VA reputedly the victims of a Shawnee massacre. I am aware of the thoughts that Jared descends from one of the Schlosser brothers - however, I do not feel that is accurate. The massacre occurence date has been argued extensively, depending on which Schlosser ancestory Jared is being "proved" to.

There were quite a number of Sloas families in MD, VA, KY and NC prior to the Schlosser's immigration to the colonies. I have found a James David Sloas living in MD who could possibly have been a father or grandfather to Jared.

Jared's son, David, is often referred to simply as "David"; however, his marriage record clearly names him as "James David".

I would appreciate hearing from others connected to this line who feel that the Schlosser connection does not fit and who are continuing to look for Jared's family and parents.
