Roberta Britannia Sloane was my husband's father's aunt. She was the youngest child of Robert B. Sloane married to Margaret Laughlin. She had 8 brothers and sisters: John Gethron Sloane, Pliny Darwin Sloane, Lola Agatha Sloane, Rupert Vance Sloane, Henrietta Sloane, Katie Alma Sloane Medwyn Dryfus Sloane, and Jetty Gretchen Sloane.
This Robert B. Sloane (born July 12, 1840; died Oct.10 1819) was the son of David Sloane and is the brother of the Ferguson Sloane mentioned in another follow-up post. Other brothers and sisters were: Henry Bidamin Sloane, Thomas Jefferson Sloane, Amelia Sloane, Celestia Sloane and Margaret Sloane. Their mother was Margaret Laughlin (born May 30, 1848; died June 19, 1931) who wed Robert on Jan. 25, 1866. Margaret Laughlin Sloane's brothers and sisters were Thomas Laughlin, Solomon Laughlin, Allen Laughlin, Tabitha Laughlin, Nancy Laughlin, and Lavina Laughlin.
Robert B. Sloane's parents were David Sloane (born around 1800-1802; died 1845) and Catherine Harmon (born?; died Dec. 31, 1869) who lived in Branch, LA, 10 miles east of Maxie, LA.
David Sloane fought in the battle of New Orleans in 1814 against the British. Robert B. Sloane was a sargeant in General Albert Sidney Johnston's confederate army. He was discharged from the army at Appomattox, VA and walked for 6 months to get home to Maxie, LA.
John Gethron Sloane (Uncle Getty) had three children, including Robert and Dola.
Pliny Sloane (Uncle Pliny) had three children - Story, Lothair, and Dodds. Story had three children - Story Jr, Elizabeth and Harold. Lothair had one sone, Derwin. Dodds had two daughters, Louise and Madeleine.
Lola Sloane had 9 children.
Rupert Vance (Uncle Vance) had three children.
Henrietta died shortly after her second son was born.
Katie Alma (Aunt Alma) had 1 child.
Jetty Gretchen (Aunt Jetty) had 6 boys.
Roberta Brittania (Aunt Robbie) had about 7 children.
Medwyn Dryfus Sloane (who was a brother of your grandmother) had three sons, Medwyn Dryfus, Ralph Gethron, and LeGrand West.
Ralph Gethron Sloane is my husband's father. He collected this information from the family record book which was done by John Gethron Sloane.
