I have been researching my gg-grandfather, Rankin Sloan, but had hit a dead end, until I came across a list of Arkansas claims to The Southern Claims Commission which was for persons with losses during the Civil War to apply for reimbursement. He had made application, which was accepted and I found out it is 61 pages long and most of the applications had a lot of personal information, including deposition for witnesses who were family and friends. I did not realize that such a thing existed, but I am hoping it will give me some more leads about him.
