My ancestor was William Sloan who was born in 1817 in Loughall and came to America in the late 1820's with his parents, James and Mary Sloan. They ended up in Hocking County, Ohio by 1840 (possibly via Canada). The family tradition is that they had to leave Ireland in a hurry and James was buried in an unmarked grave because he feared the Catholics would desecrate it. William had a sister named Eleanor. Some of the other family names were Oakley and Flavius. William married Matilda Burnsides around 1841, in Hocking. I have not confirmed Williams birth in Ireland and I don't know who my James connects with the James of the Orangemen. None of the Protestant churches in Armaugh have indexed their records.
Let me know if any of this connects with your info. I have lots of Sloan info in reference to the Sloans of Hocking, Ohio.
