David SLOAN (1753-1826) Pendleton Dst SC

Richard, Philip, Paul
I too, got all excited when I read Richard's posting about the 3 boys on the Nancy.I also got a note from Frank Sloan of Dallas TX. saying "others have followed this particular clue before and haven't been able to prove a connection.I wish we could."
Concerning David's rank & service, I got this very informative note that helps explain it:
Jan 2000, Beverly Sloan Shuler says: "David was a Capt. in the South Carolina Militia, perhaps, but not in the Rev. War.He served as a Private from Wilkes Co., Morgan Dist., NC.I have pay receipts. His brother (older?) William, served as a Lt., in same unit, if I remember correctly. Both got land in Franklin Co., GA, for their services - or rather, perhaps, just because they had served in the Revolution, and not directly "for their service." William got 400 acres, David 200, on the waters of Martin's Creek and Coneross Creek. In 1787, this part of Franklin Co., GA, was put into Pendleton District, SC, when they moved the boundary line between the two states from the Keowee River to the Tugaloo River. This is really important in tracing his family.David was able to get lots of land (1900 acres, I've counted.) and slaves.William was not as enterprising as David, or just invested in Georgia land, rather than SC.Jo White Linn found David's and William's marriage records in Wilkes Co. for me, and as a special treat, a Catherine "Caty" Sloan who was close kin to them - a sister, I believe. She married first, Hugh Montgomery, then, in Wilkes, John Cleveland, brother of Benjamin Cleveland.David and Susannah Majors m. in 1784; William and Polly Perkins m. same year. There were two land grants there for William Sloan, "on both sides of the Roaring River."It is a little settlement near Wilkesboro, NC."
In case anyone needs it, David's will is posted on the Sloan GenConnect Will board.

Brother Willam's estate records are also posted on the board.
Hope this helps.
