Sorry I didn't remember to come back and update info here. Must confess I've been worrying that there is more than one William H. in the family. William H. Slider in the 1900 census is born 1832 which seems early to be the William H. in the two John W. probate records.
But a few tidbits to reassure that he is at least a Richard SR descendant somehow....
Lots of John W.'s. First John W., son of Richard SR, is describibed in a historical passage someone sent me from "History of Ohio Falls Cities and Their Counties, Vol II" as being "the original tavernkeeper in the township (Carr Township). His place of business was on the Jeffersonville and Vincennes road, in sight of Bennettsville....The old 'Slider Hotel,' as it was called, was the last of a prominent list of stopping places on the road between the two above-named towns."
A William H. is listed in the probate records of John W.'s son John W.. First John W. was born 1797 so this is why I'm wondering about an 1832 for 3rd generation. Need to double-check for another William H. in 2nd generation. Could be a confusion with the probate record transcription I received. Would make more sense if William H was the son of John W. SR..
But, this William H. is at least for sure is the one who marries a Sarah. They are listed together in the 1900 census:
Slider Wm H. Head W M Mar 1832 68 m 29 Indiana Indiana Ohio Hotel-keeper
-- Sarah J. wife W F Mar 1851 49 m 29 5 children 4 living Indiana Pennsylvania Ohio
-- Goa (?) E. Daughter Nov 1876 Indiana Indiana Indiana
-- John W. son July 1885 Indiana Indiana Indiana at school
(Far too many John W.'s BTW. It gets confusing fast. The councilman John W. Slider who turns up on the Howard co, IN site in the newspaper abstracts is a son of Jesse Slider, son of Richard SR..)
Hope this helps...
