Here are some pieces I found on the web:
Slevin - Sleibhin - (SLE-veen) from Old Irish sleib "mountain", meaning "mountain man" or "man of the mountain." St. Slebine was abbot of Iona in Scotland in the 8th century.
SLEBHENE McDUDHDUIN Abbot of Iona successor of Saint Cillene Droicteach, in the years of 752 to 767. Feast day March 2nd.
I'm not sure which book had the Scottish origin of Slevin (my research is getting way too scattered, sorry) but it may be the following: "Varieties and Synonyms of Surnames and Christian Names in Ireland", R Matheson, 1901
"Special Report on Surnames in Ireland, with notes as to numerical strength, derivation, ethnology and distribution", R Matheson, 1909, Dublin.
