Sleet = Sleat?
Hi everyone! It just occurred to me tonight to see if there was such a surname as Sleat, since its a potential variation of Sleet. Turns out, there's not a name Sleat, but a place--Sleat, Scotland, which apparently was ruled by a noble family--the MacDonald's, from the late 1400s to the early 1700s. (info. from ancestry.com) I'm wondering if members of the MacDonald family in Sleat immigrated to the U.S. colonies and became the Sleet family? Afterall, "Weedon McCawley" does kind of have a Scottish ring to it, don't you think? :)
Anyway, I'd be interested to hear if this theory sounds good to anyone, or whether or not anyone could shed more light on this?
