Dear Folks, Since this afternoon when I was busy once again trying to solve problems of the various Benjamin Sleeper men, I have found the following information -- In September 1997, a fourth cousin of mine, George Bradley Sleeper, Jr. in conjunction with his dau. Cynthia Ann Sleeper Rood wrote his Sleeper story entitled: Genealogy and History of the SLEEPER Family with Bowen to Sleeper; Abell to Sleeper; Lyon to Sleeper; Colton to Sleeper; Hunter to Sleeper. All of these above Sleeper families are descended from Robert Sleeper, Sr. (5) and are from the Bradford County PA area of Warren Center PA. However, included in this book -- but not in the title -- is a section entitled: The Sleepers of Maine. His information, he says, is from "History of Thomaston, Rocklaand, and South Thomaston, Maine by Cyrus Eaton, Vol II; Pub. Hallowell: Master, Smith & Co. Printers 1865 and from: C.F. Richelieu, Bath Historical Society, 33 Summer Street, Bath, Maine 04530 The information I wish to give you is this: Benjamin Sleeper b 1733 was married to Hannah Hersey. Their six sons are named: 1- Nathaniel Sleeper; 2- William Sleeper; 3- Benjamin Sleeper (Jr? or III?); 4- Jeremiah Sleeper; 5- John Sleeper; & 6- Jesse Sleeper. Benjamin Sleeper died in New Meadows, ME. No birth dates nor death dates given. Geo.Bradley Sleeper, Jr. notes: Benjamin Sleeper was a shoemaker who came to New Meadows, Maine from New Hampshire. Today, it seems probable that "New Meadows, Maine" must refer tot he New Meadows River area now bordering West Bath & Brunswick. Please note: The second wife: Hannah Lovering noted in Hosier's book on Kingston NH does not appear. See posting #404. However, on pg 365 of Hosier's book on Kingston, Benjamin Sleeper b Kingston NH 24 Feb 1733 is the son of Moses & Margaret Sanborn Sleeper (KTR)----CHILDREN THERE ARE DIFFERENT. ARE THEY THE CHILDREN OF HANNAH LOVERING? AGAIN, I SAY 'MISINFORMATION' IS GIVEN SOMEWHERE EVEN IN STATISTICAL RECORDS> See posting #406. How could Hannah Hersey be a widow with six sons? When there was a second wife? The answer might be, rare as it was in those days, that there was a divorce. Perhaps, divorce records should be checked? ALSO PLEASE NOTE: The book I am getting this information from is no longer in print--Sadly, George Bradley Sleeper, Jr. is now deceased and his book was self-published. If you have any questions, perhaps I can do a look up--there are 13 pages of Sleeper names of Maine. Notify Administrator about this message?
