Hi Again,

The William I'm related to is William O. He was the son of Jedediah Sleeper III and Judith Osgood. He was the grandson of Jedediah Sleeper II and Margaret Sleeper, daughter of Moses Sleeper. He went to CA in 1852 for the Gold Rush. His son Charles was very interested in genealogy and keep letters and a dairy of his family history. With both his notes and the notes of his grandaughter, I've been lucky in researching the family history. Some of their notes have been interesting, but I'm not sure where the facts came from: that Thomas Sleeper sailed on board the "Providence" from Bristol to NY in 1646, that Thomas Sleeper may have come over with his father to Hampton, NH., and that a grandson of Thomas Sleeper stated that "he came from a very respectable family in England."

I had no idea that Thomas was Antimonian. Thank you for that info. That might explain the strong religious names: Moses, Aaron, and Luther. From what little I've read on the Antimonians since you sent your last e-mail, it looks like there were Antimonians in Exeter, NH (Rev. John Wheelwright's group). Maybe Thomas went to Hampton to be closer to them.

I think the idea that Thomas may have sailed with his brother Moses may be a myth. That same myth states that Moses went to Philadelphia, which did not exist at the time. It's possible that Thomas had a brother named Moses but I don't know of any proof.

Hopefully we can find some more clues from Goodleigh or Hampton.
