Hello, The rumor in our family has it that Thomas was a weaver, which would fit with the Goodleigh area. Weaving was big in the Barnstaple region as was ship building. No papers as to how they lived once they arrived on these shores but My Uncle found documents in Hampton, NH which provide a clue as to their faith. Thomas was an Antimonian, very strict protestants who kept to the word of the bible versus a church service. This might explain the new names. One of his neighbors filed a complaint as he did not want to live next to him. When I was in England, I did not research the deeds or business papers but there are a lot preserved as Barnstaple was out of the way of the German bombing. I was a lucky thing that most of the parish registers and other information had not yet been collected from the towns and churches for safe keeping in government offices at Exeter, Portsmouth or Bristol. I did notice you were a descendant of a William sleeper, We lost tract of a William from South Thmaston, He had sailed west in a family ship and was stranded in San Francisco. Would that be your ansestor? There is a William O (not the same). Notify Administrator about this message?
