April 7, 1818 Benjamin Sleeper of Alton, Strafford County, NH, deposed: that he enlisted April 16, 1777 for three years at Brentwood, NH under Capt. James Gray, Col. Alexander Scammell, NH Line, and served until April 20, 1780 when he received a discharge at West Point, NY, a portion of which he forwards;
that he was in the battles at Skeensborough, Fort Ann, both battles at Brandywind, Trenton and Monmouth, NJ, and at all the battles & skirmishes in the Indian country under Gen. Sullivan.

July 18, 1820 Benjamin Sleeper of Alton, N.H. sixty-one years of age, testified that he has in his family, a wife, Ruth, fifty-eight years of age.
According to the Census of 1840 Benjamin Sleeper eighty-one years of age, lived at that time in Alton NH with Joseph Sleeper.
November 14, 1898 Joseph H. Sheldon of Haverhill, Mass., "Exalted Ruler of the Haverhill Lodge, No. 165 of the B.P.O. Elks, "wrote the Department inquiring about the Revolutionary Pensioner, Benjamin Sleeper born at Brentwood, N.H. December 6, 1758; died at Alton, N.H. February 10, 1849; married May 17, 1781 Ruth Bean, who died February 1, 1843. The official paper on which the letter was written is: "The faults of our Brothers we should write upon the sands; their virtures on the tablets of love and honor."

I believe Joseph Sleeper may have been this Benjamin Sleeper's son. [A Joseph Sleeper - prob. or perhaps - of another Sleeper family served in the Rev. War [Vermont Rev. Roll] 9th of April 1778 for 11 months and 22 days and was paid 23lbs; 9 shillings and 4 deniers 31st Nov 1779.]
