When Sterling Sledge (husband of Elizabeth Skillington) died on December 24, 1867, he was buried just up the hill from Sledge's Ford over Second Creek in Lauderdale County, Alabama. This was a few miles southeast of Lexington on what is now county road number 51. There is a small cemetery there with 5 or 6 graves of people named Brown. This is known as the Brown Cemetery. For over a hundred years Sterling's grave was marked with a large field stone with initials on it. I saw the stone a number of years ago. But, in the past twenty five years or so, the stone disappeared. In October 2005, a engraved marble stone was purchased and installed. The installation was done by 3 great, great, great grandsons and 1 great, great, great, great grandson. Today the descendants of Sterling number in the thousands and are spread through out the United States. Notify Administrator about this message?
