I do not remember my source for some of this information, but here is a document I found concerning the marriage and wills of John Lewis Sledge and Cinthia L. Sammons. Marriage Record of John Sledge and Cinthia Sammons (Sussex County,Va.Marriage Bonds 1791-1795, Reference 1793-24) KNOW all men by these presents that we John Sledge & James Sammons are held and firmly bound unto Henry Lee esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia In the just and full sum of Fifty Pounds current money payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said Governor & his successors we bind ourselves jointly and severally our and each of our Joint and several Heirs, exors & admrs from ___ by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this twenty seventh day of October Anno Dom. 1793. THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such that whereas the above named John Sledge is shortly about to intermarry with a certain Cinthia Sammons Now if there be no Lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, Then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force. The County Court of said County to us directed George Kinnard, Nathaniel Smithson, and Eleazer Hardeman, We have attended at the house of John Sledge, deceased, to lay off and allot to Scynthia Sledge, widow of said deceased, one year's provisions for the said widow and family. And upon our oaths and do say being eight in number that the widow and family shall have for her support and family all the bacon and fat that she has on hand, also what cotton and flax. Also thirty five barrels of corn out of said crop. Given under our hands and seals this 7th of May 1823. George Kinnard (Seal), N.B. Smithson (Seal), Eleazer Hardeman (Seal).
