(07/23/2003) Cecil L. Slayton, age 67, of Elgin, passed away at home on Sunday, July 20, 2003. He was born on March 11, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. Cecil was very active in civic organizations including, Little League Baseball, Walnut Creek Optimist Club, Boy Scouts. He was known in the Round Rock area for sponsoring an annual picnic for the elderly in the Round Rock area. He was also a known successful businessman owning ``Slayton Sales Lumber Company, Inc.'' Cecil was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Moody; his wife of 40 years, Patricia Slayton; son, Colin Slayton; sister, Joyce Mabry; and grandson, Joshua Ryan Slayton. He leaves behind his loving wife of seven years, Johnnie Mae Williams Slayton; daughter, Lisa Sanders and husband, Johnny Dee; sons, Jay Slayton and wife, Carla, James Slayton and Dixie Cope; step-children, Ron Jackson and wife, Pam, Lawana Matthews and husband, J.R. Willis, Kathy Hensley, Clayton Taylor and wife, Julie; sisters, Ruby Bellinger, Beverly Sparks and husband, ``Buddy''; mother-in-law, Hazel Parson; sister-in-law, Thelma Martin; brother-in-law, Kenneth Odlozelik; along with 15 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2003, in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery.
