First, my apologies to those who read more than one of these surname boards. Just making certain that all branches of the family are notified. I'm administrating a Y-chromosome DNA project for all variations of the Slaven/Slevin/Slavey surname. By analyzing markers on the male Y-chromosome we should be able to determine which of the various family lines are unique, and which lines are related, with an estimate as to how many years/generations ago the line split. Because standardized spelling of names is a relatively recent phenomenon-- within the last 125 years or so-- we expect to find connections across the various Slaven/Slavin/Slevin surname spellings. We hope that a member from each of the family lines that can be traced back to the early 19th century will participate. In addition, those who "brick wall" before that time are welcome to participate with the hope of linking to one of the more established lines. More information on the study can be found at http://www.slavens.net/dna/index.htm or you may contact me at iarooster@earthlink.net. Thanks and best wishes for the new year!
