Kelly, thank you for answering. I have been out of pocket on a trip and was surprized to find you in here.
My grandmother was Sally (Smith) Terry. She married Elmer Terry, whose parents were John H. Terry, b. 1860, d. 1896 and Nancy Jane Thompson (do not have additional information right now). I can trace Terry generations back to the 1700's, but the Smith side is not so easy. There was a newspaper article on John "Hawk" Smith in the Oneida newspaper which showed this: My GGG Grandather was Anderson Smith who married Sarah, daughter of Elijah and Nancy Smith. They lived near Chimney Rock. Their son was Samuel Smith who married Sally (maiden name either Smith or Slaven). She died 1/4/1910 maybe.
Let me track it back from my grandmother.
Her parents were William (Bill Fox) Smith, b. 3/17/1860, d. 7/7/91 and Sarah Slaven, b. 3/17/1865, d. 4/22/1933. Their children were: Mandy, Mary, Cora, Flora, Sallie, Martha, Polly and James Elmer. William's parents were Sam Smith and Sally Smith or Slaven. Sam's parents were Anderson Smith and Sarah Smith or Slaven.
Sally Smith or Slaven's, Sam Smith's wife's parents were Elijah and Nancy Smith.
Now, the problem comes with Sarah Slaven's (wife of Wm (Bill Fox)family. Sarah's mnother was named Jenny Slaven. She was umarried and had at least two daughters. The other's name was Betty. Jenny was reported to be pregnant both times by a Burke. Family tales say she never married. She does not show up on Census reports, etc. No one knows anything about her lineage. Her father's name was probably Peter. If I have confused you, please let me know and I will try to simplify the mess. Hope you can help.
